What is Private Duty Nursing (PDN)?
The intermittent and temporary, complex skilled one-on-one child nursing care provided by licensed nurses (Registered Nurses (RN’s) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN’s) provided at the patient’s home. Private duty nursing services are recommended for children who require long-term skilled medical care, such as:
- Medication and Injection Administration
- Respiratory Diseases/Disorders
- Tracheostomies
- Ventilator Dependent
- Gastrostomies (GT)
- Nasogastric (N-G) Tube
- Quadriplegic/Paraplegic
- Seizure disorder
PDN care includes assessment, monitoring, skilled nursing care, and caregiver/family training to assist with the transition of care from a more acute setting to the patient’s home.
